Francesco Cardinal Morano (born June 8, 1872 in Caivano , Province of Naples , Italy , † July 12, 1968 in the Vatican ) was a Cardinal Curia of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Francesco Morano completed his theological , philosophical and scientific studies in Aversa and Rome with doctorates in philosophy, Catholic theology, canon law , civil law and physics .

He received on 10 August 1897, the sacrament of the priesthood and, after further studies in 1900 as an assistant at the Vatican Observatory . From 1903 to 1925 he was an administrative assistant in the service of the Curia .

Pope Benedict XV awarded Francesco Morano the title of papal secret chamberlain in 1918 and appointed him trainee lawyer at the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature in 1921 . Pope Pius XI In 1935 he made the office of secretary at the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature , which he held until 1962.

Pope John XXIII took him on 14 December 1959 as a cardinal deacon with the title Diakonie Santi Cosma e Damiano in the College of Cardinals and donated it in 1962 after the appointment of Titular Archbishop of Fallaba the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were the cardinals Giuseppe Pizzardo and Benedetto Aloisi Masella . Francesco Morano participated in the conclave of 1963 that Paul VI. elected as Pope, as well as participated in the Second Vatican Council .

He died on July 12, 1968 at the age of 96 in the Vatican and was buried in Aversa . At that time he was the oldest cardinal in the world.
