history
The Francisco was commissioned on November 8, 2010 and laid down on May 16, 2011 under the hull number 069 in the Incat shipyard in Hobart . The ship received two gas turbines from GE Aviation and a jet drive from Wärtsilä .
The ship was originally supposed to be named Lopez Mena , under which it was launched on November 17, 2012. After the election of the cardinal and former Archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Mario Bergoglio as Pope and his chosen name Francis , the new catamaran was renamed in his honor.
On July 3, 2013, the Francisco was delivered to Buquebus. On August 2, the ship arrived in Montevideo, where it was officially christened on September 30 . On October 9, 2013, the catamaran started service between Buenos Aires and Montevideo.
