Count Franciszek Maksymilian Ossoliński (born April 2, 1676 , † July 1, 1756 in Jarville-la-Malgrange , Lorraine ) was a Polish count, politician and art collector.

Offices and politics

From 1703 to 1710 he was the Chorąży (banner bearer) of the town of Drohiczyn, which was then part of the Lithuanian part of the empire . He was the Starost (royal administrator) of Sandomierz , Nursk , Ostrów , Drohiczyn, Chmielnik and Niepołomice . In 1727 he worked as administrator ( Żupnik ) of the salt mines in Bochnia and Wieliczka .

In 1713 he was Podskarbi nadworny (treasurer with judicial function). As Marshal of the Sejm (from May 5 to November 16, 1722) he warned the Sejm in Warsaw of the collapse of the Republic of Poland-Lithuania . From 1729 to 1736 he was treasurer of the Great (i.e. Polish) Crown. Although he had been the private secretary of August the Strong , he supported the election of Stanislaus I. Leszczyński as King of Poland in 1733 and commanded his armed forces in the War of the Polish Succession . After the surrender of Danzig in 1734 he was taken prisoner by the Russians.

He still did not submit to August III. , but followed in 1736 Stanislaus I. Leszczyński to Lunéville . He became the great chamberlain and count of the Duchy of Lorraine . He died on July 1, 1756 in La Malgrange Castle. His grave is in the Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours church in Nancy .

family

The son of Maksymilian Ossoliński and Teodora Krassowska married Katarzyna Miączyńska in 1706 and had three children with her: Józef Kanty Ossoliński, Anna Ossolińska and Tomasz Ossoliński. In 1732 he married Katarzyna Jablonowska, the daughter of Chancellor Stanisław Jan Jabłonowski .
