Franciszek Salezy Potocki (* 1700 in Krystynopol ; † October 22, 1772 ibid) was a member of the Polish magnate family Potocki and between 1755 and 1772 voivode of the Kiev voivodeship .

Franciszek Salezy Potocki was the grandson of the Grand Hetman of the Polish Crown Feliks Kazimierz Potocki and son of Józef Felicjan Potocki . His son was the Polish magnate and politician Stanisław Szczęsny Potocki (1752-1805). His daughter Marianna Klementyna Potocka was married to the civil servant and later theater writer Alois Friedrich von Brühl in the Polish service .

Life

On August 3, 1750, he was awarded the Order of the White Eagle in Warsaw . On May 22, 1755 he became voivode of the Volyn Voivodeship and on December 19, 1756 he received the Kiev Voivodeship with its headquarters in Zhytomyr , as Kiev itself had been Russian since 1667 .

As one of the richest men in Poland, Potocki owned extensive latifundia , several hundred villages and 70 towns, including Uman and Tultschyn .

During his reign, the Hajdamaks' Koliivshchyna uprising took place in 1768 , led by Maksym Salisnjak and Ivan Gonta , in which more than ten cities and 130 villages in his voivodeship were destroyed and which culminated in the conquest and massacre of Uman .
