Franco Bernabè (born December 18, 1948 in Sterzing , South Tyrol , Italy ) is an Italian entrepreneur.

Life

The son of a railroad worker , he studied at the University of Turin and graduated in 1973 in political science . He was then Professor of Economics and Politics at the School of Industrial Administration and Senior Economist at the OECD .

In 1978 he became head of the Economic Studies Department at Fiat .

In 1983 he went to Ente Nazionale Idrocarburi where he was initially assistant to the chairman. In 1986 he became director of development, planning and controlling there. From 1992 to 1998 he led the reorganization as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of ENI.

In 1998 and 1999 he was CEO of Telecom Italia . In 1999 he served as the Italian Government's Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Kosovo. From June 2000 he was a non-executive director of PetroChina Co. Ltd., Fiat and TNT Post Group . He then founded the Franco Bernabe Group, of which he is the largest partner and chairman. He also became deputy chairman of the cell phone company H3G .

From 2002 to 2003 he was President of the Biennale di Venezia . In 2003 he became a member of the Steering Board of Confindustria and a member of the board of directors of the LUISS University in Rome . In 2004 he became president of the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto (MART). In 2005 he became Vice Chairman of Rothschild Europe .

From December 2007 until his resignation in October 2013 he was chairman of Telecom Italia .

Between 2012 and 2015 he was a member of the 'Steering Committee' of the Bilderberg Conference . Mario Monti held the same position until 2011 ; he resigned from office when he became Prime Minister of Italy.
