Franco Nones (born February 1, 1941 in Castello-Molina di Fiemme ) is a former Italian cross-country skier .

Career

Nones, who started for the GS Fiamme Gialle, made his first international appearance at the 1964 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck . There he took tenth place over 15 km and fifth place with the relay. In March 1964 he was fourth over 50 km at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival . The following year he took third place over 15 km at the Lahti Ski Games . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , he won the bronze medal with the Italian relay. He also came in sixth place over 30 km. He experienced his sporting climax at the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , when he became Olympic champion over 30 km ahead of Odd Martinsen . He also achieved 36th place over 15 km and sixth place with the relay. In March 1968 he was ninth in the 50 km run at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso , he finished sixth with the relay. His last international appearance was at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo . There he achieved the 40th place over 15 km. At Italian championships he won 16 times between 1960 and 1971, including seven times with the relay.
