Frank-Joachim Herrmann
Frank-Joachim Herrmann (born November 15, 1931 in Dresden ; † December 28, 2005 ) was a German journalist and SED functionary.
Life
The son of a railroad worker grew up in Dresden during the Nazi era , where he attended elementary school from 1938 to 1942 and high school from 1942 to 1950. From 1942 to 1945 he was a member of the German Young People of the Hitler Youth . After the end of the Second World War , in May 1945 he was courier of the Antifascist Combat Committee in Dresden. In 1949 he joined the FDJ and the SED. After graduating from high school in 1950, Herrmann went to East Berlin and initially worked as a trainee , later, after a six-month special course at the Institute for Journalism in Leipzig, as an employed editor for the newspaper BZ am Abend . In July 1959 he moved to the Berliner Zeitung , where he worked until 1963, most recently as 1st deputy editor-in-chief. From December 20, 1961 to January 31, 1962, he was acting editor-in-chief after Theo Grandy's recall . From 1963 to 1968 Herrmann was deputy head of the agitation department of the SED Central Committee . In 1966 he graduated as a journalist. In 1967 he was appointed a member of the agitation commission of the SED Politburo , which he remained until 1989. From 1968 to 1989 Herrmann was Erich Honecker's personal assistant and speechwriter . From August 1980 to October 1989 he held the rank of State Secretary as head of the office of the Chairman of the State Council of the GDR . Herrmann was a candidate from 1981 to 1986 and a member of the Central Committee of the SED from 1986 to 1989.
