Frank Ebel (born May 11, 1957 in Berlin ; † September 3, 2015 there ) was a German SPD politician and sports official .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in Berlin, he studied from 1976 to 1979 at the University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Berlin and graduated with a degree in administration. After completing his studies, he worked for the State of Berlin until 1981.

From 1981 to 1986 he studied law at the Free University of Berlin and in 1986 passed the first state examination in law with a grade of “good”. From 1987 he was a trainee lawyer at the Berlin Higher Regional Court , worked as a research assistant at the Center for National and International Antitrust Law at the Free University of Berlin and passed the second state examination in 1989, also with distinction. From 1990 to 1991 he was employed in the senior civil service at the Governing Mayor of Berlin - Senate Chancellery, from 1991 to 1998 he was in the Senate Department for Economics and Technology in Berlin, among other things media economics consultant, head of the office of the Senator for Economics Norbert Meisner and later head of the European policy department. From 1990 to 1993, Ebel was a lecturer at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice.

From 2007 until his death, Ebel worked as a lawyer in Berlin.

Political activity

Ebel joined the SPD in 1975. From 1998 to 1999 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . From 1999 to 2001 he was State Secretary for Youth and Sport in the Senate Department for School, Youth and Sport. Here Ebel campaigned for a ban on fighting dogs in Berlin. After the formation of the Senate Wowereit I , Ebel was State Secretary for Economics in the Senate Department for Economics and Technology from 2001.

After the formation of the Senate Wowereit II , Gregor Gysi became Senator for Economics and Technology and Ebel was put into temporary retirement in 2002.

Other functions

From 2005 Ebel was President of the Berlin Gymnastics and Recreational Sports Association , which belongs to the German Gymnastics Association (DTB). He was head of organization of the 4th European Gymnastics Championships in the singles of men and women, which took place from April 4th to 10th, 2011 in Berlin.

On November 16, 2012, Frank Ebel was elected spokesman for the 22 regional gymnastics associations in the DTB. In this function he was a member of the Presidium of the German Gymnastics Federation.
