Frank Edmond (born December 23, 1966 ) is a former German soccer player who spent almost his entire career at 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and its successor club VfB Leipzig .

Career

After Frank Edmond had spent his early years at BSG Motor Leisnig, where he started playing football in 1973, and at BSG Chemie Böhlen , he switched to 1. FC Lok in 1979. When for the 1983/84 season the junior upper league was reorganized with all the clubs and communities represented in the GDR upper league, Edmond was also a midfielder in the junior squad of 1. FC Lok. There he stood out with good performances, so that he was included in the squad of the GDR junior national team and played five international matches there. Although still reported as a junior player in the following season, Edmond came on the 14th matchday, February 16, 1985, as a central defensive player with the first team in the GDR league for use. In his first league season he completed nine point games. For the 1985/86 season he was also officially registered for the league team, but only made five appearances and was also not in the FDGB Cup final, which his team won 5-1 over 1. FC Union Berlin. It was not until the 1986/87 season that he won a regular place at Lok, but was also missing in the 1987 Cup victory over Hansa Rostock (4-1).

Until 1987, Edmond was also a member of the GDR youth national team, with which he played 15 international matches. He achieved his greatest international success when he reached the final of the 1987 European Cup Winners' Cup with 1. FC Lok Leipzig . Edmond was in the starting line-up against Ajax Amsterdam , but was replaced in the 54th minute. The final was lost 1-0 in the end. He played a total of four European Cup matches this season and has played a total of eight international cup games over the course of his career.

Even after the club was renamed VfB Leipzig in 1991 , Edmond was still part of the Leipzig squad. With his team, he first played in the 2nd Bundesliga until VfB was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga in 1993. In VfB's only Bundesliga season, Edmond only missed a league game and scored four goals in 33 games. After relegation from the Bundesliga, Edmond stayed with VfB Leipzig until 1999. He played a total of 349 point games for 1. FC Lok and VfB and scored 21 goals. From 1999 to 2002 Frank Edmond played for Eintracht Braunschweig in the regional league before ending his competitive sports career at the age of 35.
