Frank U. Augustin (born January 16, 1954 in Heilbronn ) is a German musician , composer and singer .

Life

Frank U. Augustin grew up in Celle and Flensburg . He received his basic musical training on the piano from church music director Fritz Popp from the Nikolaikirche Flensburg . He then founded the band THE CLUMP with Ulf Meyer. Own songs and covers followed, including a. with Gustl Lütjens. From 1973 he played in the BERLIN GROUP with Bernd Gruber, Susanne Stühr and Rainer Berg. In 1978 Augustin founded the rock band “Pille Palle und die Ötterpötter” together with Michael Stein , Jochen Staadt , Rainer Glienke, Dieter Westmeier and Gerd Udo Heinemann. The group made a brief appearance in the feature film The Heartbreakers in 1982 and was closely associated with the self-administered project center Mehringhof .

In 1984 Frank U. Augustin went on a music tour with Manfred Maurenbrecher . From 1990 to 1996 he worked as a musician, actor and composer in productions with the theater group Vanilla Gorgon. With the Berlin satirical artist Sarah Schmidt , the musical event series “Salon Pröppke” (1994) and “NeeNeeNee” (1999–2000) as well as songs to texts by Friedhelm Kändler for the program “LebenLeben-Ebeneben” (1997–1998) with Markus Kiefer were created. In 2000 Augustin founded his band die passanten .

Frank U. Augustin lives as a freelance musician in Berlin . Together with the Berlin chansonnière Maila Barthel , he has been giving cabaret concerts with songs by Hildegard Knef ("Am I knef?"), Chansons and ballads by Jacques Brel and François Villon ("La Brel") as well as poems, songs and moritats by since 2012 Bertolt Brecht (“And the Sea So Blue”). The latest musical program of the duo "Die Barthel & Der Augustin" pays homage to Udo Jürgens : "O you Udo - and the sun rises again and again".
