František Vnuk

František Vnuk (born April 8, 1926 in Červený Hrádok ) is a Slovak historian , publicist , technician , university professor and lecturer in metallurgy .

Life

František Vnuk was born in 1926 in Červený Hrádok near Zlaté Moravce . After graduating from high school , in 1946 he began to study mining at the University of Mining Sciences in Ostrava . In 1949 Vnuk emigrated to Austria and a year later to Australia , where he settled in the city of Adelaide . His decision to leave Slovakia was driven by his political convictions, which were incompatible with the only official, i.e. communist, doctrine of the then Czechoslovakia .

After completing his studies in Australia, Vnuk became an assistant at the Institute of Technology and in 1955 he received the title of lecturer. At the same time he studied history and political science at the University of Adelaide . From 1970 he worked with the World Congress of Slovaks . After 1989, Vnuk returned to Slovakia and became a teacher at the Roman Catholic Theological Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava .

The scientific and journalistic activities of František Vnuk deal mainly with the time of Cyril and Methodius , modern Slovak history and Slovak church history . He is the author of many publications, including Dedičstvo otcov, Dokumenty o postavení katolíckej cirkvi na Slovensku v rokoch 1945–1948, Vládni zmocnenci na biskupských úradoch v rokoch 1949–1951, and others. The majority of his works condemned the Slovak National Uprising and manifests itself reversed positive compared to the during the Second World War existing Slovak State . Vnuk also takes a critical stance towards the Czechoslovak state as such. Vnuk's theses in particular often provoke polemics among readers of the specialist world . His publications also concern church history. Pope John Paul II awarded him a significant award , who awarded him the Order of Gregory . František Vnuk currently lives and works alternately in Slovakia and Australia.
