Franz-Josef Veltin

Franz-Josef Veltin (born February 2, 1924 in Bernkastel-Kues , † September 2, 2010 in Wittlich ) was a German winemaker and politician ( CDU ).

Life

The son of a winemaker first attended elementary school and later passed the Abitur. He did Reich Labor Service from 1942 , took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was most recently taken prisoner by the United States. On his return he attended the interpreting institute at Heidelberg University , where he took the correspondent examination. He then worked as a winemaker in his parents' winery.

Veltin joined the CDU and was managing director of the CDU district association Bernkastel until 1956. In 1960 he was elected local chairman and deputy district chairman of the party. He was active in local politics and had been a member of the Bernkastel-Kues city council since 1952. In November 1956 he was elected alderman and in September 1957 honorary mayor of the city. From 1967 to 1979 he held the mayor's office full-time.

In the 1963 state elections , Veltin was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament via the CDU state list, to which he belonged until 1967. In parliament he was a member of the Viticulture and Wine Industry Committee.
