Franz Annel (born October 24, 1903 in Riegelsberg ; † February 21, 1986 in Pomerania ) was a German Catholic priest .

Life

Franz Annel, who came from a mining family in Saarland, was a son of Jakob Annel and his wife Catharina, née Schweitzer. In Trier he attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium from 1918 to 1925 and then studied at the Trier Episcopal Seminary until 1931 . After he was ordained a priest on August 3, 1931 , he initially worked for four years as a chaplain in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Trier and then for two years in Quiigart . As a religion teacher, he taught for six months at the Cäcilienschule in Saarbrücken and two years at the secondary school in Bitburg , before he was appointed pastor on July 22, 1939 in the town of Emmersweiler on the German-French border . Here he and his community experienced several evacuations due to the war, but was later able to return to their homeland, which has since been destroyed. After a total of six years after the end of the Second World War , he took over the parish of Pomerania on the Moselle with its branches in Kail and Brieden .

At his new place of work, where he lived and worked for over 30 years, he had extensive renovations carried out in the rectory and in the youth home. He had the church of St. Stephen and the silent organ restored and the kindergarten expanded. He attached particular importance to a moderate restoration while maintaining the original building stock. He also received the uniform and valuable interior in the oldest rectory in the Trier diocese in Pomerania. Franz Annel, who was said to be close to the people and pragmatism, was made an honorary citizen of Pomerania in 1973. In 1984 the now 80-year-old priest was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon by District Administrator Severin Bartos in the chapter house in the Pomeranian rectory . He received another award when he was the first non-parliamentarian to be presented with the coat of arms of the district of Cochem-Zell .
