Johann Franz Anton Bracht (born July 22, 1773 in Recklinghausen ; † September 14, 1862 at Gut Dillenburg near Datteln ) was a civil servant and formerly a liberal politician .

Life

Franz Anton Bracht came from an old family of civil servants in Cologne . He studied law and was court and government councilor of Cologne. Even after Vest Recklinghausen was transferred to House Arenberg , he remained in a comparable position. After the vest was transferred to the Grand Duchy of Berg , it was a tax collector. Bracht was also a farmer.

Politically, Bracht drew attention to himself at the 3rd Westphalian Provincial Parliament of 1830/31, to which he belonged as a member of the fourth estate for the Recklinghausen district . Together with Baron Franz Egon Philipp von Fürstenberg-Herdringen , Bracht applied for a petition to King Friedrich Wilhelm III. in order to call on the latter to convene an all-Prussian state assembly and to enact a Prussian constitution. Bracht explicitly recalled the constitutional promise of 1815. After long debates it was decided to send Freiherr vom Stein in his function as state marshal to Prince Wilhelm, who was staying nearby. Bracht protested against this in vain, since in his opinion petitions actually had to be forwarded directly to the king. Nevertheless, the debate had an important function in the formation of liberalism in Westphalia.

In 1833, 1843 and 1845 he was again a member of the Provincial Parliament. In 1847/1848 he was a member of the First and Second United State Parliament and in 1848 also of the Prussian National Assembly . From 1849 he was a member and age president of the first chamber of the Prussian state parliament .
