With this he fought the uprisings in Bergamo and Brescia , he also took part in the skirmishes and battles of 1848/49. The battle of Novara was won through his well thought-out intervention, which is why the field marshal promoted him to colonel in the Albrecht infantry, which the emperor subsequently sanctioned.

After he had been appointed Chief of Staff at the Vienna General Command on August 31, 1849, he retired in 1850 with the rank of Major General . When he returned to Trieste, the “ Ponte Verde ” and the Nabresina water pipeline were built under his direction . Reactivated on May 17, 1854, he was appointed brigadier in Przemyśl , and on October 3 of the same year he was appointed head of the Army Catering Department.
