Franz Bucher (sculptor)

Franz Bucher (born July 27, 1928 in St. Gallen ; † September 21, 1995 in Dietingen , Rottweil district ) was a German sculptor and well-known student at the art school in the Bernstein estate near Sulz am Neckar .

Career

Franz Bucher completed an apprenticeship in wood carving from 1944 to 1947. In 1949 and 1950 he worked as a forest worker and stone cutter. From 1951 to 1952 he studied at the art school in Bernstein as a student of Hans Pfeiffer , Riccarda Gohr and HAP Grieshaber . In 1951 he returned to Fridingen . His family came from here. From 1952 he worked as a freelance sculptor. The sculptures - wooden steles and reliefs - caused a sensation and brought him numerous awards, such as the Upper Swabian Youth Art Prize in 1958, the German Youth Art Prize in 1960 and the Villa Romana Prize in Florence in 1965 . In 1970 he took part in the international sculptor symposium " Forma Viva " in Slovenia , and in 1977 in the wood sculptor symposium in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Bucher was a member of the German Association of Artists and an extraordinary member of the Association of Artists of Baden-Württemberg. Along with Romuald Hengstler , Erich Hauser and Felix Schlenker, he belonged to the so-called gang of four that founded the Rottweil art space . In 1961 he co-founded the New Württemberg Group with Roland Dörfler , Emil Cimiotti , Robert Förch , Erich Hauser and Emil Kiess .
