Franz C. Lipp

Franz Carl Lipp (born July 30, 1913 in Bad Ischl ; † May 29, 2002 ibid) was an Austrian folklorist .

Career

After attending the Academic Gymnasium in Linz , he studied German , history , philosophy and folklore at the universities of Vienna and Graz from 1933 to 1938 . His dissertation on the basic forms of cultural life was supervised by Ernst Mally . In 1939 he took over the management of the folklore department of the State Museum in Linz and remained its director until his retirement in 1978. Under his leadership, the department was rebuilt and the Linz Castle was transformed into a museum for regional culture. Lipp achieved particular merits through his commitment to the numerous local and open-air museums in Upper Austria .

In 1967 he completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna with a thesis on Upper Austrian rooms . In 1973 he was appointed associate university professor, and in 1990 he was appointed full university professor.
