Caspar Franz Sambach
Caspar Franz Sambach (born January 6, 1715 in Breslau ; † February 27, 1795 in Vienna ) was a Silesian - Austrian painter. He was mainly active as a painter of altarpieces and as a fresco artist.
Life
Sambach received training from the Wroclaw painter Johann Heinrich Depée (L'Epée), a student of Daniel Gran , and had previously been an apprentice to the painter Reinert, which he broke off. In 1740 he moved to Vienna, worked in the Georg Raphael Donner artist's workshop and at the same time studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Paul Troger . Three years later, in 1743, he received the first prize (first premium) in drawing under director Jacob van Schuppen and married that same year.
In 1758 he became an honorary member of the Franciscische Akademie der Freie Künste und Wissenschaften in Augsburg . After the death of Paul Troger , Sambach received the teaching post of architecture under the director Martin van Meytens of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. After all the existing art schools in Vienna were merged to form an academy of "united fine arts" in 1772, he was appointed director of the painting and sculpture school.
Sambach had three daughters and two sons. The older one, Christian, was also a painter. He died in 1799, on the day he received the decree for the professorship at the Vienna Art Academy.
