Franz Christian Gesterding , also Friedrich Gesterding , (born March 6, 1781 in Greifswald ; † December 16, 1841 ibid) was a German law scholar and university professor.

Life

Franz Gesterding, son of Christoph Gottfried Nicolaus Gesterding and younger brother of Carl Gesterding , attended the Greifswald city school from 1788 and the University of Greifswald from 1797 to 1801 . There he heard Roman law from David Wilhelm Warnekros and Carl Friedrich Voigt , instructions on litigation with Friedrich August Mehlen and German law from Emanuel Friedrich Hagemeister . In 1801 he became a notary in Greifswald. He was admitted as a lawyer to the Greifswald court and in the following year to the Wismar Higher Tribunal . Franz Gesterding was appointed advocatus fisci in 1804 and procurator at the court court in 1806. In the fall of 1811 he resigned from both offices. From the beginning of 1808 to the end of March 1810, he also managed the post of hunting tax for Swedish Pomerania .

In 1812 he received his doctorate in law at the Greifswald Faculty of Law and went as an adjunct to the Faculty of Law at the University of Greifswald, where he was appointed full professor of Roman law in 1818. He edited numerous legal writings. From 18120 to 1823 he was also a member of the Greifswald consistory . In 1825 he was elected rector of the university.
