Christoph Gottfried Nicolaus Gesterding

Christoph Gottfried Nicolaus Gesterding (born November 18, 1740 in Greifswald , † February 28, 1802 ibid) was a German lawyer and historian in Swedish Pomerania .

Life

The son of Greifswald's mayor Johann Matthias Gesterding attended the Greifswald city school , where the rector Hermann Jacob Lasius had a decisive influence on his development. From 1756 to 1759 he studied at the University of Greifswald , where he turned to law and history under Augustin von Balthasar . On May 17, 1763 became a Doctor of Laws PhD . Soon after , he completed his habilitation and became a private lecturer at the University of Greifswald. However, he chose a career as a practicing lawyer and became an administrator at the Wismar Tribunal .

Gesterding published various writings on legal topics, including Roman and Luebian law . In addition, he dealt with the history of Pomerania and published three magazines.

His sons came from his marriage to Wilhelmine Breitsprecher
