education

Düsterwald studied Catholic theology at the University of Bonn and then switched to the Cologne seminary . On April 7, 1866, he received the Great Cathedral in Cologne by Bishop Johann Anton Friedrich Baudri the priesthood .

Live and act

On December 7, 1867, Archbishop Paulus Melchers appointed Düsterwald first parish chaplain to St. Alban in Cologne, where he stayed for an unusually long time. During this time he pursued theological studies parallel to his pastoral duties and at the end of 1886 became Dr. theol. PhD . Heinrich Ludwig's second parish chaplain had been at his side since December 23, 1868 . With this he was later to rebuild the priest training in the Archdiocese of Cologne in the spirit of the new archbishop, Philipp Krementz , which had come to a complete standstill during the Kulturkampf .

Therefore he was appointed by him on October 15, 1887 as the first director of the planned theological convict in Bonn ; Ludwigs was appointed president of the seminary in Cologne. "Both were in the highest degree personae minus gratae with the government agencies." Together with Düsterwald, Gerhard Esser and Christian Krabbel were appointed repetitions in Bonn. During his time as director, Düsterwald was responsible for the construction of the Collegium Albertinum , the building of which was built from 1889 to 1892 according to plans by the architect Johannes Richter and - after Richter's death - by Gerhard Franz Langenberg . It was also Mirkwood who, despite the difficult financial situation and against a previously common practice, pushed the Archbishop to turn to the cell system , that is, to set up single rooms.

On January 1, 1900, the capitular vicar from Cologne appointed Düsterwald as parish administrator of Groß St. Martin in Cologne, where he was confirmed as pastor on February 21, 1900 by the new Archbishop Hubert Theophil Simar . As early as April 1, 1903, Simar appointed him real canon at Cologne Cathedral, on April 11, 1903, to the General Vicariate Council and on March 15, 1904, appointed him conductor of the Episcopal Chamber of Accounts.
