Franz Deus

Franz Deus (born February 14, 1901 in Düsseldorf , † March 18, 1970 in Essen ) was a German trade unionist .

Life

Deus, who came from a Düsseldorf civil servant family, studied philosophy and theology in Freiburg and Bonn from 1920 to 1925 after graduating from high school in Düsseldorf, as well as economics in Cologne and Münster. As a student he became a member of the KV connections K.St.V. Brisgovia Freiburg, Vandalia Bonn and Ravensberg Münster. He was initially a research assistant and in 1925 in Münster at the social and Caritas scientist Heinrich Weber with a socio-political work on the welfare measures to workers' children in the steel industry in Duisburg-Hamborn to Dr. rer.pol. PhD in political science. He was in-house counsel at the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts and then in-house at the Cologne and Aachen Chambers of Crafts .

From 1945 he worked for the Christian-social movement in adult education and in 1948 became the first director of the DGB federal school Hans-Böckler-Schule of the German trade union federation in Hattingen . He also taught at the Dortmund Social Academy .

Deus was a member of the CDU and chairman of the working group for social policy. He was committed to Catholic social teaching. In 1952 he was in Bad Honnef, together with Joseph Höffner , Johannes B. Hirschmann SJ, Jakob David SJ, Franz Josef Wothe , Heinrich Tenhumberg , Alexander Stein and Albrecht Beckel, one of the founders of the AKSB working group for Catholic-social educational institutions . Among other things, Deus was a member of the supervisory board of Essener Steinkohlenbergwerke AG .

In 1964 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Tisserant and invested in Cologne Cathedral on December 5, 1964 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the Order.

Deus remained a convinced KVer until his death, at the representative meeting of KV 1959 in Freiburg, he wanted to give the main lecture (topic: endangering or securing freedom through social structures?), But this lecture was canceled due to an acute illness of Deus .

Franz Deus was married to Johanna Bals since 1931.
