Franz Eugen Dostal

Franz Eugen Dostal (born April 16, 1935 in Vienna ) is an Austrian composer , conductor , dramaturge and director .

Life

Dostal was initially a Vienna Boys Choir . From 1948 to 1956 he studied at the Vienna Music Academy (composition with Joseph Marx , Karl Schiske , organ with Karl Josef Walter , conducting with Reinhold Schmid ). In 1953/54 he went to the Krauss drama school (acting, directing) and from 1968 to 1970 he moved to the University of Vienna , where he studied theater and musicology.

Dostal was u. a. from 1953 to 1981 assistant to Karl Böhm and from 1956 to 1964 published the magazine Der Opernfreund as publisher and editor-in-chief. In 1957 he co-founded the Society for Music Theater (of which he has been president since 1965). From 1963 to 1969 he produced and directed several television films. From 1964 to 1971 Dostal worked as a dramaturge and director of the Vienna State Opera : from 1970 to 1974 he was elected General Secretary of the International Richard Strauss Society and from 1971 to 1982 he also chaired the Richard Wagner Association in Vienna. Since 1970 he has been a delegate at the UNESCO International Theater Institute .

Franz Eugen Dostal is married to Helga Bertz-Dostal .
