Franz Fidel Bröchin (born April 5, 1736 in Rheinfelden AG ; † August 24, 1799 there ) was a Swiss rococo church painter .

Life

Franz Fidel Bröchin came from a family resident in Rheinfelden in Upper Austria. Little is known about the living conditions. As a fresco artist, he is stylistically close to Franz Joseph Spiegler , while also showing Viennese influences. In Minseln he submitted a cost estimate of 500 guilders for the painting of the Church of St. Peter and Paul and was subject to the much cheaper competitor Gotthard Hilzinger from Waldshut . In the 1760s and 1770s, in cooperation with the Vorarlberg plasterers Lucius Gams and Johann Martin Fröwis , he painted churches in Aargau, on the German High Rhine and in the Lake Constance area. Bröchin's main work are the frescoes of St. Remigius in Mettau, which can be counted among the best works of their time on the Upper Rhine.
