Franz Georg Joseph von Lassaulx (Franz von Lassaulx or Lasaulx) (* 21st July 1781 in Koblenz , † 2. April 1818 in Nancy ) was a professor of law , writers , printers , booksellers , publishers and translators . His father was the court and government advisor Adam von Lassaulx (1753-1813).

Life

Franz von Lassaulx grew up in Koblenz under the impressions of the French Revolution and its consequences. In 1797 he was involved in founding a Republican club. Accompanied by his father, he first appeared as an interpreter for French at the age of sixteen. In 1798 he became an adjoint translator at the Koblenz criminal court with the rank of secretaire . A year later he gave up this position and concentrated on his work as a publicist. Lassaulx was able to rely on his father's print shop, which he later took over, and published the Koblenz newspaper between 1801 and 1803 . Because of its opposition reports to the French occupying power, it was confiscated several times and finally banned. At the end of 1801 Lassaulx was arrested for reporting on the restrictions on German wheat deliveries to England and imprisoned in the fortress of Ham . While working as a newspaper publisher, he founded a law firm in Koblenz.

professorship

In 1806 he was appointed to the newly established school for law in Koblenz , where he taught civil law. In 1807 he passed the printing works and the book trade to his brother-in-law L. Pauli and in 1808 he was a founding member of the casino company in Koblenz . In 1810 he became dean of the Koblenz School of Law and three years later General Inspector of the Imperial University of Law.

France

At the end of 1813 Franz von Lassaulx first went to Paris , which he had already visited twice before, and then spent the last years of his life in Lorraine . From 1814 he was dean of the Nancy Law School . There he died on April 2, 1818 after a long illness.

Franz Georg Joseph von Lassaulx was a Republican in terms of his convictions and admired the French Revolution , together with his future brother-in-law Joseph Görres and other schoolmates. His interest in poetry and the poets Goethe , Schiller and Klopstock was decisive for his literary activity . He was personally friends with Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano .
