Franz Grundwalt (born October 18, 1940 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). From 2001 to 2005 he was district chairman in Vienna's 1st district, Innere Stadt .

Grundwalt worked professionally as a restaurateur and between November 19, 1997 and April 18, 2001 held the office of deputy district mayor. After Richard Schmitz retired from politics and his office as district chairman in 2001, Grundwalt took over the function of district chairman on April 19, 2001. After his election promise in the district council elections in 2001 , the construction of an underground car park under the Neuer Markt, had failed and surveys showed a possible victory for the SPÖ in the district council elections in 2005 , Grundwalt lost in September 2005 in a ballot for the top candidate of the ÖVP in the inner city then MEP Ursula Stenzel , although he was confirmed in his leadership position by the district party executive in March 2005. Grundwalt was subsequently replaced by Stenzel as district head after the ÖVP's election victory on December 22, 2005.
