Franz Hammerla

Franz Hammerla (born October 4, 1902 in Serles , † May 14, 1974 in Krefeld ) was a German clarinetist.

Life

Hammerla studied in 1922/23 at the " Conservatory of Music in Leipzig ", his teachers were Edmund Heyneck and Walther Davisson.

He began his career as a soloist and chamber musician . From 1927 he was principal clarinetist with the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra , where he played until 1941 , interrupted by an engagement at the Meran Opera . After that he was first clarinetist in the large orchestra of the Reichsender München until 1944. After all, he was principal clarinetist in the Reichs-Bruckner-Orchester (Linz) , of which he was a member until it was dissolved in spring 1945.

In 1946, Franz Hammerla and 21 other musicians founded the Northwest German Philharmonic in Bad Pyrmont , which is now based in Herford . He played there for three years, also in the orchestra of the theater in Detmold . Since 1949 he was first clarinetist in the orchestra of the theater in Krefeld / Mönchengladbach. In 1951, when the Richard Wagner Festival reopened in Bayreuth, he was a member of the festival orchestra and participated in performances. As a soloist and orchestral musician, Hammerla has contributed to countless radio and recordings, most of which are now lost. He played u. a. under the direction of Georg Ludwig Jochum , Herbert von Karajan , Wilhelm Furtwängler , Karl Böhm and Hans Knappertsbusch .
