Franz Heger (ethnologist)
Franz Heger (born October 4, 1853 in Brandeis an der Adler , Bohemia , † July 23, 1931 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ethnologist and museum official.
Heger was the head of the anthropological-ethnographic department of the Natural History Museum (from which the Museum für Völkerkunde Wien emerged ). He wrote a fundamental work on the Southeast Asian kettle gongs (Chinese tónggǔ , 铜鼓 , English dong son drums ), which are often referred to as "bronze drums", which is still regarded as the basis of research in Vietnam and China to this day.
