Asaka ( Асака in Russian or Cyrillic spelling ) is a city in the Uzbek part of the Ferghana Valley in the Andijon province near the provincial capital Andijon . According to a calculation for 2009, the population is 60,537, the 1989 census showed 43,000. Asaka is the capital of the Asaka district .

In Asaka, automobiles are also manufactured under state care. The Uz-DaewooAvto and GM Uzbekistan joint ventures exist here . At the same time, other companies for parts production were established.

During the communist era, the city was called Zelensk ( Зеленск ) from 1924 to 1937 and was named after the Soviet politician Isaak Zelensky . When this fell out of favor, it was renamed Leninsk ( Ленинск ) in the same year and kept that name until 1991, when it was renamed Asaka.
