Shahrixon ( Cyrillic Шаҳрихон ; Russian Шахрихан Schachrichan ) is a city in the Uzbek part of the Ferghana Valley in the Andijon province .
According to a calculation for 2009, the population is 83,158 inhabitants, the 1989 census showed 45,200 inhabitants. Shahrixon is an independent city and at the same time the capital of the Shahrixon district of the same name .
Shahrixon ( Tajik 'City of the Khan') was founded during the reign of the Khan of Kokand Umar between 1809 and 1821. After the conquest by the Russian Empire, the small town became a village and this was still the case during the construction of the Great Ferghana Canal in 1939/40. Former names of the city are Stalin and, until 1970, Moskovsky . In 1970 the settlement was given city rights in addition to its new name.
In Shakhrihon opens Shahrixonsoy in the Great Ferghanakanal.
