Franz Heinrich Martens

Franz Heinrich Friedrich Martens (born November 4, 1778 in Wismar , † May 11, 1805 in Jena ) was a German physician and university professor .

Life

Franz Heinrich Martens attended school in his hometown . He studied medicine at the universities of Leipzig and Jena . He completed his studies on July 5, 1800 with a doctorate as Dr. med. with the dissertation Dissertatio Inauguralis Medico-Obstetrica Sistens Criticen Forcipum Nonnullarum In Arte Obstetrica Ustitatarum: Cum tabula aenea ab. He returned to Leipzig as a general practitioner and qualified as a professor at the university there in 1803.

Martens 1804 was after a short time as a lecturer in Leipzig associate professor clinical medicine at the University as well as a director at the Starke'schen institutions to Jena appointed . It is not certain whether he was promoted to full professor shortly before his death . In any case, he received various awards in his short term. In 1803 he received the Grand Golden Medal for Art and Science from the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. He was also a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Sciences in Erfurt , the Société médicale d'émulation and the Société galvanique in Paris as well as other scientific societies.

Martens is said to have described the EEC syndrome for the first time in 1804 .
