Franz Josef Holzinger , also Franz Ignaz Holzinger (* 1691 in Vöcklabruck , Upper Austria ; † August 14, 1775 in St. Florian , Upper Austria; born Franz Joseph Ignatius Holzinger ) was a very busy plasterer and sculptor of the Baroque in Bavaria and Austria .

Life

He was the son of the plasterer Johann Georg Holzinger, with whom he was first mentioned in 1718. First he lived in Schörfling, in 1720 in Linz and from 1724 in Sankt Florian. There he owned a house and did a lot of work for the local monastery. In 1728 a child was baptized for him in Sankt Florian. One of his students was (presumably) Johann Baptist Modler . According to Rudolf Guby, Holzinger's most characteristic style element is the elongated, varied, applied bandwork , which he used white on a colored background or colored on a white background, and the economical use of shellwork .
