Franz Joseph Ferdinand Ritter von Schmöger auf Adelzhausen , short Joseph von Schmöger , (born October 8, 1761 in Wertingen , † January 8, 1825 in Würzburg ), was a royal Bavarian major general and commander of the Würzburg fortress.

Life

Von Schmöger was the son of the retired royal. Bavarian court counselor Franz Joseph von Schmöger, Herr auf Adelzhausen (born February 28, 1733 in Wertingen, † May 15, 1821 in Munich) and Maria Magdalena born. On August 8, 1809, the then lieutenant colonel of the 5th Line Infantry Regiment von Schmöger was initially able to repel an attack by the Tyroleans during the battles around Imst . When the Tyroleans attacked from all sides, however, he had to give up his position and ordered a retreat. For his brave and prudent behavior, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Military Max Joseph Order on August 9, 1809 and promoted to colonel according to the army order of March 23, 1810 . In 1811 he was provisionally given the command of Ingolstadt by the king . In the same year he was transferred to Kempten . From 1812 he acted as city ​​commander of the Würzburg fortress .
