Franz Jung (conductor)

Franz Jung (* 1899 ; † 1978 ) was a German pianist, music educator and conductor .

Live and act

Jung began his career as a solo coach at the Dresden State Opera . Due to the successful performance of the Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner , which he directed there with great success , Franz Jung was hired in 1924 at the Erfurt City Theater as 1st Kapellmeister in Erfurt .

At the age of 25 he was appointed general music director of the Erfurt City Theater. He worked there until his appointment to the Dresden Philharmonic through Heinz Bongartz . Kurt Masur was 1st Kapellmeister under him in Erfurt . Masur was his successor in Dresden from 1955.

Jung took on guest conductors, a. a. in Weimar , Belgrade (1943) and Rostock and taught as a professor at the state conservatories and music colleges in Erfurt, Leipzig and Weimar. Students included Dieter Zechlin (composer), Eduard Lehmstedt (later music director of the German National Theater Weimar ), Kurt Dietmar Richter and Siegfried Thiele .

Franz Jung was a member of the Academy of Non-Profit Science in Erfurt .
