Franz Küberl (Vienna 2009)

Franz Küberl (born April 22, 1953 in Graz ) is the former President of Caritas Austria (1995-2013) and was director of the Styrian sub-organization from 1994 to 2016.

Life

Küberl attended commercial school after compulsory school. Franz Küberl began his professional career in 1972 as the diocesan secretary of the Catholic youth workers in Styria. From 1976 to 1982 he headed the Federal Secretariat of the Catholic Youth of Austria in Vienna and was also chairman of the Austrian Federal Youth Council . In 1982 he became a consultant at the Catholic Educational Center in Graz , in 1986 he became General Secretary of the Catholic Action Styria, and in 1994 he was the Styrian Caritas Director. In December 1995 he succeeded Helmut Schüller as President of the Austrian Caritas and worked in this position for 18 years. In November 2013 Franz Küberl did not stand for election as President of Caritas Austria, Michael Landau , the Caritas Director of the Archdiocese of Vienna, was elected as the new President of Caritas Austria on November 13, 2013.

He was also a member of the ORF Public Council and until 2018 of the ORF Foundation Council . Alfred Trendl, President of the Catholic Family Association, succeeded him on the Board of Trustees. Küberl is one of the founders of the Katholischer Medien Verein private foundation . This is the owner of the Styria Media Group , which in turn includes the Kleine Zeitung and Die Presse , among others .

At the end of August 2016, he handed over his position as director of the Styrian Caritas to the previous economic director of the Graz-Seckau diocese, Herbert Beiglböck.

Franz Küberl lives in Graz. He is married and has two sons.
