Michael Landau (priest)
Michael Landau (born May 23, 1960 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Catholic clergyman . Since 2013 he has been President of Caritas Austria and since 2020 of the Region Europe of Caritas Internationalis .
Life
Michael Landau is the son of the marriage of the Jewish father Erwin Landau , who had to flee Austria in 1939 and did not return to Austria until 1947 after his stay in Shanghai , and the Catholic mother Eva Landau . His younger brother Daniel Landau is a teacher and active as an education politician for the Greens in Vienna .
Michael Landau graduated from high school in Vienna in 1978 and then began studying biochemistry , which he completed with a doctorate in 1988 . He entered the Catholic Church while studying and was baptized in 1980. Since his high school days he has been a member of the Catholic secondary school associations KPV Thuiskonia Wien and Ö.KC Kahlenberg , both in the MKV . He is also a band philistine at KMV Siegberg Dornbirn in the VMCV. Since 2005 he has been an honorary member of the K.Ö.HV Alpenland zu Wien in the ÖCV .
In 1986 he entered the seminary and studied philosophy and Catholic theology . In 1999 he was for a doctorate in canon law with the work impeachment and transfer of pastors to Dr. iur. can. PhD. He was ordained a priest in Rome in October 1992 .
In December 1995 he took over the management of Caritas Vienna after Helmut Schüller . Since November 13, 2013 he has been President of Caritas Austria . In May 2020 he was elected President of the Europe Region of Caritas Internationalis to succeed Lucas Van Looy .
