Franz Miltenberger

Franz Miltenberger (born November 14, 1867 in Buchbrunn near Kitzingen , † May 30, 1959 ) was a Roman Catholic priest .

Life

Franz Miltenberger was born as the first of seven children to railroad attendant Andreas Miltenberger and his wife Anna. For the winter semester of 1886/87 Miltenberger matriculated at the University of Würzburg in the subjects of theology, philosophy and history. He was ordained a priest on August 3, 1890 . He worked as a chaplain at the Juliusspital Würzburg and in Giebelstadt , as a pastor in Rannungen and Bad Brückenau and from 1924 as cathedral capitular in Würzburg . In 1930 the Würzburg bishop Matthias Ehrenfried appointed Miltenberger vicar general . He held this office until the bishop's death in 1948. In 1935 Miltenberger was made dean of the cathedral , in 1938 by Pope Pius XI. appointed provost of the cathedral .

Miltenberger was the initiator of the establishment of the grammar school in Bad Brückenau , which was later named after him.

He was awarded the Great Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , awarded in 1952 by Theodor Heuss , and an honorary doctorate from the University of Würzburg .

Franz Miltenberger is buried in the Sepultur chapel of the Würzburg Cathedral .
