Franz Paul Massau

Franz Paul Massau (born August 31, 1818 in Cologne , † April 4, 1900 in Düsseldorf ) was a German engraver of the Düsseldorf School .

Massau attended the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1841 to 1850. There he was a pupil of Joseph Keller's engraving class . Massau created devotional pictures for his association for the dissemination of religious images . Massau also took lessons from Ernst Deger , whose works he later engraved. After completing his studies, Massau set out to engrave the “Cologne cathedral image” on the altar of the city patron by Stefan Lochner . This work, which was completed in 1855, earned him great recognition. In 1860 his son Edmund was born, who became a history, genre and landscape painter. Both were members of the Düsseldorf artist association Malkasten .
