Franz Röhrer

Franz Röhrer (born February 23, 1937 in Graefenroda ) is a former German football player. From 1961 to 1963 he played for SC Motor Jena in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . With the SC engine he became GDR champion in 1963.

Athletic career

For the 1961/62 season, Franz Röhrer moved from the fourth-rate district division BSG Chemie Jena to the GDR Oberliga for the current GDR Cup winner SC Motor Jena. In this season, GDR football was changed from the calendar year rhythm to the summer-spring season, so that the league was played over 39 rounds from February 1961 to June 1962. Coach Georg Buschner first used Röhrer as a striker on matchday 8. After a long break, Röhrer did not return until matchday 19 and played another 14 point games by the end of the season. Always used in attack, he scored five goals. In the six games in the 1961/62 European Cup Winners' Cup , which brought the SC Motor to the semi-finals, Röhrer was called up in the two games of the first round and the quarter-finals, where he won the quarter-final second leg over the Portuguese representative Leixões SC the gate to the 3-1 final score succeeded. In the regular squad for the 1962/63 season, Röhrer was provided, in fact he was only used five times in the league between the 5th and the last 26th matchday, but scored three goals. For the 1963/64 season he was back in the league squad, but was not used. Then he was delegated to BSG Motor Zeiss Jena in the district league (now third class). There he played three seasons until 1967. During the 1965/66 season, the BSG was incorporated into the newly founded FC Carl Zeiss Jena as the 2nd team, and in 1966/67 FC Carl Zeiss II was promoted to the GDR league. However, at the end of the season, Röhrer said goodbye to higher-class football.
