Franz Rauscher (politician, 1885)

Franz Rauscher (born January 17, 1885 in Schladming ; † June 11, 1962 in Feldkirch ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ / KPÖ ). Rauscher was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1918 to 1932 and a member of the Vorarlberg state government as a regional councilor from 1918 to 1920 .

Franz Rauscher was born on January 17th, 1885 as the son of the maid Anna Rauscher in the Styrian town of Schladming . Rauscher began his school education in Schladming by attending the three-year elementary school and the trade school. He then completed a three-year apprenticeship as a locksmith and blacksmith . In addition, he completed his military service for two years with the Kaiserschützen Regiment No. 4 in Klagenfurt. In 1909, Rauscher finally entered the service of the kk state railways as a machine fitter in the railway workshop at Feldkirch station . On July 8, 1912, Franz Rauscher married his first wife Maria Franziska in Altenstadt, with whom he had a son in 1918. In the war years 1914 to 1918 he served as a fitter for the state railways in Trieste , Persen and Primolana.

For the first time in political activities was Franz Rauscher in 1916, when he was a member of the municipal council of the Old City was chosen. On November 3, 1918, Rauscher was also sworn in as a social democratic state councilor, and in 1919 and 1920 he continued to exercise this office in representation of Fritz Preiss . From 1919 to 1928 he was subsequently a member of the Feldkirch city council for the Social Democrats. Franz Rauscher was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from November 3, 1918 to November 21, 1932 as a member of the Feldkirch electoral district .

At the beginning of June 1936, Franz Rauscher was arrested on suspicion of prohibited political activity in the corporate state , but released again in October due to a lack of evidence. From April 20 to May 28, 1937, he was again imprisoned on the same suspicion. With the annexation of Austria to the German Reich under the National Socialists , Rauscher was arrested for a further six months in March 1938 and his house was searched several times as a result. In 1939/40 he was used for military service as a steam engine fitter at the Illwerke power plants in Rodund , Latschau and Vermunt as well as at the Kaprun power plant . In 1941 he served at the Styrian electricity works in Niklasdorf and Bruck an der Mur , and in 1943 at the Tauern power plants in Kaprun . After the Second World War and the liberation of Austria, Franz Rauscher joined the Communist Party of Austria in September 1946 . After his first wife died on May 14, 1945, Rauscher married his second wife Hedwig Maria on March 22, 1947 in Feldkirch.
