The Vermuntwerk is a high-pressure storage power station from illwerke vkw and is located at the end of the Montafon valley in Partenen , a district of the Vorarlberg community of Gaschurn .
It uses the altitude difference of 714 m from Vermuntsee ( 1743 m above sea level ) to the Montafon valley ( 1030 m above sea level ) to generate electrical energy . The power house generates an average of 260 gigawatt hours of electrical energy per year with a turbine output of 156 megawatts (MW) .
From the Vermuntwerk, the water is directed via tunnels and aqueducts to the Latschau reservoir and from there to the Rodundwerk .
history
The Vermuntwerk is the first power station of the works group of the former Vorarlberger Illwerke AG . In April 1925 it was decided to build the power station and work began that same year. As early as 1930, the power plant could be put into operation before the Vermuntsee dam was completed . The largest hydroelectric power station in Austria at the time was inaugurated in 1931 by Dean Barnabas Fink . In 1930 the power plant had four turbines with 22 MW each. In 1939 an additional turbine was added. In the years 1952 to 1953, the four old one-nozzle turbines were replaced by more powerful two-nozzle turbines with 30 MW each.

Five machine groups are installed in the power house. Each machine group consists of a two-nozzle Pelton turbine and a generator. The machine groups are constructed with horizontal axes.
