The Rifa plant is located between Partenen and Gaschurn next to the Rifa equalization basin and was put into operation in 1969.

When Kopswerk  I and Vermuntwerk are in operation at the same time , the water that accumulates from the Partenen equalization basin is partially shifted to the Rifa equalization basin and the gradient is used by operating the turbines in the Rifa power plant. In off-peak periods, the pump operates in the opposite direction.
