The Walgauwerk is a hydropower plant in Beschling near Nenzing in Vorarlberg, Austria . It is part of a chain of storage power plants on the Ill and uses the 162 m high slope of the Ill between Rodund and Beschling. The Walgauwerk was put into operation in 1984 and is operated by illwerke vkw AG . The Walgauwerk has a bottleneck capacity of 86 megawatts and a standard energy capacity of 356 GWh . The power plant mainly generates medium load energy during the day.
Investments
The water is for the most part over a 20.758 km long pressure tunnel from the pelvis Rodund II for water lock brought obliquely above the power plant building. To avoid surge waves when water is returned to the Ill, the underwater is temporarily stored in an equalization basin.
The power house is designed as a shaft power house with a shaft depth of 28 m and an internal diameter of the excavation of 20.6 m. The power plant consists of two vertical-axis machine groups, each with a Francis spiral turbine and a generator.
There is a gas-insulated switchgear with sulfur hexafluoride (SF 6 ) as a protective gas and four fields for connection to the 220 kV power grid .
