The Latschau reservoir (also: Latschau reservoir ) is a reservoir and lies at the foot of the Golmerhang and the Krestakopf and is part of the water supply for energy generation of illwerke vkw AG in the Austrian Montafon in Vorarlberg .

history

From November 1932 to January 1933, preparatory work for the Latschau reservoir was carried out (exploratory shafts, among others). The Latschau reservoir was built between 1938 and 1944 (largely completed in 1943) together with the around 19 km long headwaters Partenen – Latschau (from the Kopswerk and Vermuntwerk ) and the Rodundwerk I. The associated Lünerseewerk was only built in the 1950s.

In the course of the construction of Rodundwerk II in the 1970s, the Latschau reservoir was expanded, and basin II, completed in 1972, was created.

Location and design

The reservoir is located in Latschau above Tschagguns at 992  m above sea level. A. and which is Lünerseewerk from 974 meters higher Luenersee ( 1970  m above sea level. A. ), the free-flow tunnel fed with water from Kopswerk and Vermuntwerk and from further six streams. The water stored in the Latschau reservoir is forwarded from there to Rodundwerk I and Rodundwerk II and used for further energy generation (raw head approx. 350 m to the Rodund pumped storage power station).

The reservoir, which uses a natural geological hollow near Latschau, was deepened further and raised on the north-west and east side by embankments (crest height up to 50 m). The suitable material excavated from the storage bed was used to fill the dams.

The Latschau reservoir consists of two parts. In the case of high stagnation, the two basins connect via the intermediate dam. In addition, basin I can be connected to basin II via a contactor, even when the water level is normal, and joint management is possible. Thanks to the contactor, basin II was separated from basin I during the renovation work in 2011 and Rodundwerk I continued to operate.

Basin I comprises the Latschauwerk power plant , the discharge for the Lünerseewerk and the discharge for Rodundwerk I, basin II the discharge for Rodundwerk II, the flood discharge (via a sloping shaft into the Rodund basin) and a bottom outlet .

Technical specifications

The Latschau reservoirs are day storage for Rodundwerk I and II as well as underwater and pumped water storage basins for the Lünerseewerk (via the Lünerseewerk pumped water canal).

  • Congestion destination : 992.26 m above sea level A.
  • Starting the flood relief:> 992.25 m above sea level A.
  • Storage center 988.36 m above sea level A.
  • Lowering target : 974.01 m above sea level A.
  • Usable volume of basins I + II: 2.24 million m 3
  • Dam crest basin I + II: 993.70 m above sea level A.
  • Intermediate dam Dam crest: 987.38 m above sea level A.
  • Length of dam basin I + II: approx. 1,000 m
  • Greatest height: approx. 50 m
  • Dam crest width: approx. 4 m

Discharge systems

  • Flood discharge capacity: 49 m 3 / s
  • Drainage capacity bottom drain basin II: 25 m 3 / s

Renovation work

Basin II was renovated in spring and summer 2011. This was done because due to damage in Rodundwerk II , it had to be shut down for several years. For this purpose, reservoir II was completely emptied.

During the renovation of basin II, around 12,000 cubic meters of silt masses (sand and mud) were removed and around 100,000 square meters of new sealing material (e.g. asphalt layer ) were applied. Reservoir I should follow in two years.

As a reserve, another outlet structure was built for a pressure tunnel Partenen - Latschau and further improvement and protection measures were taken. Around 20 million euros were spent on the renovation .

Further renovation work began in mid-April 2017. Basin I was emptied and rehabilitated (approx. 23,000 m³ of sand and silt removed and the drainage / basin seals renewed), the fencing renewed, Rodundian basins I and III emptied, work on the concrete structures carried out and the relief channel rehabilitated. Around 16 million euros were spent on this.
