Golm is the name of a winter sports and hiking area owned by illwerke vkw AG near Tschagguns in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg , which is managed by its subsidiary Golm Silvretta Lünersee Tourismus .

The area extends from an altitude of 654  m at the valley station in Vandans to 2124  m at the Golmer Joch . The entry point in the municipality of Tschagguns near Latschau is at 985  m . The Matschwitz district is located at 1520  m (at the second middle station of the Golmerbahn) .

history

The starting point for the development was an inclined elevator from Vorarlberger Illwerke AG , which was built in 1956 to build pressure pipes between Lünersee and Latschau for the transport of people and goods.

After the construction work was completed, the inclined elevator was opened to the public on December 19, 1959, and the ski area was put into operation. 221 people were transported on the first day.

In 1977, 1979, 1981 and 1983 the Golm was the venue for the women's ski world cup races: the gold key races with downhill, slalom and combined rankings took place here. The area gained international fame through media coverage.

In 1988, the adjacent chairlift from Vandans to Latschau was also taken over by Illwerke. This lift was in 1995 together with the original funicular (Golmerbahn) through a roller-cabin gondola replaced the main tributaries since then is.

The snowmaking systems have been continuously expanded since 1990 . In 2003, the Aussergolm area was better connected to the ski area with a ski tunnel.

The Golm ski area currently operates nine lifts and cable cars, including an 8-person monocable gondola (EUB) in three sections, four detachable chair lifts and two tow lifts.
