Franz Riemer (clergyman)

Franz Seraph Riemer (born September 30, 1884 in Pfarrkirchen ; † October 28, 1965 in Passau ) was a Roman Catholic priest and vicar general in the Diocese of Passau .

Life

Riemer was ordained a priest in 1909 and in 1911 became a city pastor cooperator at St. Paul , 1918 religion teacher and spiritual in the Freudenhain grammar school , 1923 director of the Episcopal Clerical Seminary and member of the Spiritual Council in the Episcopal Ordinariate. In 1925 he received his doctorate from the Pontifical University in Rome.

After being appointed cathedral capitular in 1928, he was appointed vicar general in the diocese of Passau on January 1, 1931 by Bishop Sigismund Felix von Ow-Felldorf as successor to Ludwig Heinrich Krick . Riemer held this highest office in the diocesan administration until the end of 1960 when he was succeeded by Johannes Dachsberger . In 1932, as provost, he was chairman of the Passau cathedral chapter of St. Stephan and from May 11 to October 25, 1936, he was vicar of the capitol during the vacancy of the diocese. In 1935 he was taken into police custody in Berlin. In 1935 he founded the Episcopal Youth Pastoral Office and in 1936 the Passau Diocese Gazette . At the end of the war, he put his life at risk for the surrender of Passau without a fight.

Riemer died in 1965 and was buried in the cathedral crypt in the church of St. Severin .
