Franz Rosner , also Franz Rosnik (born September 2, 1800 in Waitzen , Hungary , † December 3, 1841 in Stuttgart ) was an Austrian opera singer (tenor).

Life

As a child, Rosner came to Budapest as a choir boy . There he sang in the church choir of the cathedral until his voice broke. Supported and always striving for further training, Rosner came to Vienna as a teenager and was accepted as a singer in the choir of St. Stephen's Cathedral .

At the age of 20 he was engaged at the Leopoldstädter Theater and was able to start there that same year. The fact that Rosner's commitment came about is partly thanks to Ferdinand Raimund , who heard him in the cathedral and recommended him to others. However, at the end of 1820 Rosner moved to the Kärntnertortheater , the former court opera. In 1821 he sang Max in the Vienna premiere of Carl Maria von Weber's opera Der Freischütz .

Due to his success, other theaters became aware of Rosner. From now on he was offered tours and guest performances again and again. In 1823 he stayed in Amsterdam . From 1825 to 1829 he worked at the court theater in Braunschweig . Then he went back to Amsterdam for a few months.

In between, Rosner kept returning to Vienna for a short time. Invitations from the court theater in Kassel and Darmstadt followed . In 1833 he was engaged by the court opera in Stuttgart and stayed there until the end of his life. It was precisely here that he celebrated great successes in Italian operas.

Tenor Franz Rosner died on December 3, 1841 in Stuttgart at the age of 41.
