Franz Thomas Schleich

Franz Thomas Schleich (born January 1948 in Tomnatic ( German  Triebswetter ), People's Republic of Romania ) is a Romanian-German writer and publicist .

Life

Franz Thomas Schleich belongs to the Danube Swabians in the Romanian part of the Banat , which is located on the border with Hungary and Serbia . In his Romanian homeland he published several volumes of poetry in German from the late 1970s and worked for the Neue Banater Zeitung (NBZ) in Timișoara (German Timisoara). The then editor-in-chief of the NBZ, Nikolaus Berwanger, gathered a group of young Romanian-German writers around him, including Horst Samson and William Totok as well as the later Nobel Prize winner for literature Herta Müller and her former husband Richard Wagner .

At the beginning of the 1980s, Schleich submitted an exit application, which was granted, not least through the mediation of the then Federal Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher . The journalist then wrote articles critical of the regime in Stern magazine .

The political TV magazine Report Mainz of SWR reported in a television program on 11 January 2010 in the ARD that he in the 1980s for the Romanian secret Herta Müller and Horst Samson Securitate under the code name Voicu said to have spied.

Franz Thomas Schleich lives near Ludwigshafen am Rhein , where he worked in the communications department of a linoleum company.
