The Mülheim I state constituency is a state electoral district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Its area covers almost the entire district-free city of Mülheim an der Ruhr . Only the local constituency of Winkhausen belongs to another constituency, Essen I - Mülheim II .

From 1947 to 2000 there were two constituencies in Mülheim, which together were congruent with the city. As a result of the local government reform and decreasing population numbers, the constituencies were later reorganized, one constituency was expanded for the state elections in 2000 to include part of the city of Essen , which was then called Mülheim II - Essen VII . For the 2005 state elections, the number of constituencies in North Rhine-Westphalia was reduced, which meant that Mülheim lost one constituency and Mülheim I was created in its current form.
