history

The Leverkusen constituency was re-established with the 1966 state elections. Before that, the city , which belonged to the Rhein-Wupper-Kreis until 1955, belonged to the constituency Unterer Rhein-Wupper-Kreis or Rhein-Wupper-Kreis-West - Leverkusen . From 1980 there were two constituencies in Leverkusen: Leverkusen I comprised the western and southern parts from 1980 to 1995, Leverkusen II - Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis I the area of the formerly independent communities Opladen and Bergisch Neukirchen as well as the communities Burscheid and Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch -Bergic Circle . The area was changed for the state elections in 2000, Leverkusen I now included the city districts I and III, Leverkusen II - Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis I the city district II. Both constituencies together corresponded to the also dissolved Bundestag constituency Leverkusen - Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis II . Since 2005 there has been only one constituency in Leverkusen.
